School Days!

We had a fun school day this week! While we were studying dendrochronology for science, we decided to get out of the house and study it for real instead of in a book. I'll give you bonus points if you know what that is.....
Here are some pictures that might give you a hint.

Dendrochronology is tree-ring dating. We studied archaeology in science club so this was their project for the month. They learned how tree-ring dating can help archaeologists determine the age of log homes and can provide information about the climate, floods, droughts, etc. for certain years. It was very interesting!

After that we went to our local library. They have an exhibit that we have walked past hundreds of times but never really studied. This week in school we studied about Lewis and Clark and their journey west. One of the men that went on this journey was Charles Floyd. We live in Floyd County, Indiana, thus the reason they have this exhibit at the library. Charles Floyd was the only member of the party to die during their long journey. He died from a ruptured appendix. The kids had a good time learning more about him at the library.

These were some pages from his journal.

And while were at the library, we noticed that Brandon and Bekah's art teacher had made a display in one of the display cases and Brandon and Bekah each had a drawing on display!
It's so nice to be able to get out of the house and do fun things for school!
