Sleeping Beauty Party

Our baby girl will turn 5 on Wednesday, so this past Saturday we had her birthday party. She chose a Sleeping Beauty party this year!

The cake was a joint effort. Bekah chose strawberry cake with pink icing so it would be pink and pink. Mommy baked the cake, and Mrs. Sonja made the frosting. Mommy frosted it, then Daddy smoothed it and decorated it. I think it turned out nice!

She is ready for her guests to arrive! We served hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, cake and ice cream.

This was one of her favorite gifts....Barbie and the Diamond Castle movie.

The crowd sings, "Happy Birthday Dear Bekah!"

And she blows out the candles!

Some of the girls stayed to spend the night with us. Here they are getting beautiful....

And posing by the castle.

And watching Bekah's new movie...

After the movie, it was time to dance!

Even Kyla got in on the dancing fun!

Time for bed! Bekah wanted Kyla and Mrs. Kara to spend the night too, so they stayed until about 9:00. Thankfully, all the girls were asleep before 10:00!

The next morning. Bekah chose Barbie pop-tarts for everyone to eat for breakfast.

Bekah wore her new birthday dress to church the next morning.

A trip to Maryville

We also took a trip this fall to Maryville, Tn to visit with Todd's family.

Throwing the football is a must when the Youngs get together!

Papaw throwing the frisbee!

Papaw and Grandmom had purchased this scooter for Brandon, and he hardly got off of it the whole weekend!

Bekah and Ty spend lots of time riding up and down the driveway!

The bonfire has become our annual October tradition!

Our friend, Steve, came with us to Maryville.

Roasting marshmallows for S'mores!
Ready for church!

After church the menu is usually pizza! Everyone's favorite!

We celebrated Grandmom's birthday!

TV

After I had Brandon, I went back to work part time. Todd and I were trying to figure out ways for me to be able to be home with him full time. One thing we did to reduce our expenses was to cancel our cable TV. We purchased "rabbit ears" and were able to pick up the basic 10-12 channels for free. Well, that has been 8 years ago and we have opted to continue living without paying for cable. The only kid channel that we can pick up with the antenna is PBS, and I am usually okay with the kid shows on that channel so I don't have to worry about them watching a show that I do not approve of. One good thing about not having cable is that we don't waste as much time flipping through the channels to see what is on. It only takes a few minutes (seconds?) to flip through our 10-12 channels to see what is on. But I have also discovered another benefit to not having cable TV....commercials. PBS is usually the only channel that my kids watch, and there are no commercials on that station. Yesterday we sat at the pediatric dentist's office and they had a TV showing one of the kid stations. I can't remember which one it was, but it wasn't PBS. We sat there about 30 minutes or so, and I can't even tell you how many times I heard Bekah say, "I want that....ooh can I have that?" I probably would have heard it from Brandon too, but he was doing his school work. I am so thankful that I do not have to listen to that every day!

Columbia

After all the fresh air, we had to come home and eat! We had a belated celebration for Todd's birthday complete with Reeses peanunt butter cup pie! Yummy!

Fall Hiking

We also took a trip to Columbia, TN this fall. The weather was nice and we enjoyed a day of hiking at Stillhouse Hollow Falls State Natural Area with my parents and brother and sister-in-law. We packed a picnic and ate lunch at a park and threw the frisbee for a while. What a great way to spend a fall day!
