My son can beat you up!

On May 17th, 2008, my 7 year old son became a 1st degree black belt in karate!! He has worked hard over the last 25 months to earn this belt. He even scored a perfect 4 out of 4 on his test. Here are some pictures from test day!

Here he is being congratulated by his teacher after the test!
His new black belt is being embroidered with his name, so he doesn't have it yet. Hopefully he'll get it soon, and I will post some pictures!

Gymnastics

Today was Bekah's last gymnastics class for this year. She really enjoyed herself and made a lot of progress. She also made a good friend named Gracie this year and they had a blast playing together. These are her pictures from this year that were taken earlier in the spring.
This is most of the girls in her class. Her friend Gracie is the one on the right side just below her. (They did get in trouble a few times for talking to each other a little too much when they should have been listening to the teacher!)
One story from gymnastics - One day I was getting her ready to go. They are supposed to put their hair up for class so it doesn't get in their way. Sometimes it would just be a ponytail, or sometimes a bun or 2 dogears. One day I started to put it up in a bun (which Bekah calls a curl) and she said, no she wanted a straight down ponytail. I asked her why she didn't want it in a "curl" and she said "because none of the other girls wear it like that." Now, I'm just wondering where in the world she learned that it matters what everyone else is doing.....I didn't know it started this young! We're going to be in for it in a few years.....

Happy Mother's Day!

Here's a silly shot of me and my kids on Mother's Day (and a little bit of Todd). My parents were in town for Mother's Day weekend, and they got to see Brandon get baptized also. Todd came home from work early the Friday before Mother's Day and brought me two beautiful pink rose bushes. He planted them in pots on our back deck, and they look very nice out there!

I got a card from my mom and dad with money in it for a haircut. Yeah!

We got my mom got a new purse and a pearl necklace.

Brandon's Baptism

On Mother's Day this year, I got a great gift....I got to see my son get baptized. And Todd had the privilege of being the one to baptize him. Brandon did a great job of being calm and collected despite the fact that the water was frigid! When our pastor started filling up the baptistry, he accidentally opened the drain. So, all the warm water ran down the drain. By the time he realized the problem, the hot water heater didn't have time to heat more water. So, it got filled up with cold water! Todd said it almost took his breath away. So, here are some pictures (thanks to Kara) from our special day!

Brandon is excited to not only be our son, but also our brother!

Silly Brandon

Okay, so I have to tell you all what Brandon said the other day. He says, "Mommy, I think I know how I got diabetes." I say, "Really? How?" He says, "From chewing so much gum." I am very confused and ask why he would think that. He says, "Because I saw in a magazine something called Serious Gum Disease and diabetes was listed on there."
Okay, I think I might have laughed out loud, or at least smiled. Then I politely explained that your gum is what holds your teeth in your mouth. And they can become diseased because you have diabetes. And then I had to think a few minutes about all the long term possiblities for Brandon's health....And then I had to stop. It can become depressing if I let my mind wander there. I really don't think of it on a daily basis because he does so well with managing his diabetes. He almost seems just "normal." Whatever "normal" is!

An Evening at the Park

Last Friday, Todd finished with his Greek class for this semester (YEAH!!), so we spent the evening at the park celebrating!
Brandon got this airplane for Christmas and we finally got to try it out.

It works!

2 cool dudes!

We also took our new dragonfly kite to fly!

Of course the kids enjoyed the playground.

The weather was perfect, and we played until the sun went down. Then we stopped by Zesto's for some fabulous ice cream!! What a fun day!
