Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! We are excited to celebrate the birthday of our Savior! Tonight Todd is making omelets for dinner and we've got hashbrowns and grits to fix too. Then we'll watch The Nativity Story, the movie that came out last year. We will read the Christmas story from the Bible and Todd may even break out his guitar to sing a few carols. The kids get to open one present on Christmas Eve which is always new pajamas from Grandmom and Grandpa. Tomorrow we're excited to have some friends from our church coming over to have Christmas dinner with us. We should have 8 adults and 3 kids here about 3 pm. Some of the guests are bringing dishes so I don't have to do all the cooking! Of course we'll have a birthday cake for Jesus as our dessert. It's baking right now. Todd likes to pick a red velvet cake so we will be reminded of the blood Jesus shed for us as we celebrate his birth in a stable. Can't wait!!

Christmas Season

Well, it's that time of year again....Christmas! Every year I desire to keep our family's focus on Jesus and not on Santa and presents, etc. Every year I find that so hard to do. We do have some nativity scenes that are prominently displayed in our home, but we also have a tree with presents underneath. The kids seem more interested in gazing at the gifts than the nativitiy scene! I know it is partly because of their age, but I somehow want to teach them what is really important. Their"favorite" toy will soon become clutter in the bottom of a toybox, or it will get broken, or it will be sold in a yard sale. Their relationship with that baby in the manger will last them throughout eternity. We do celebrate each year with a birthday party for Jesus and we try to involve the kids in buying and delivering gifts to a really needy family. We have some other little things we do also, but I'm always looking for more great ideas. Part of the problem is that I get great ideas too late and don't have time to carry them out before Christmas. So, I'm planning now for next year. Any suggestions?!?!
Christmas always seems to sneak up on me each year. I don't really get into the Christmas mode until after Thanksgiving, Bekah's birthday and Todd's finals are over. So, I really end up with 2 1/2 or 3 weeks to get it all done. I've decided this is not enough time! We have attended 2 Christmas parties, shopped, wrapped, decorated the house, helped a needy family, baked, delivered presents, sent Christmas cards, made Christmas projects, etc. all while trying to keep up with homeschooling and the regular day to day tasks of cooking, cleaning, laundry, errands, etc. I am tired! I miss those carefree days of childhood when you are out of school and you just play games, watch tv, and eat fun Christmas food!! I hope I am providing some of those fun times for my children like I remember having as a child.
Well, enough rambling for today. I'm trying to get packed to leave for a quick trip to Maryville to celebrate Christmas with Todd's family. I guess I better get back to it...

Bekah's Birthday

The day after Bekah's party was her actual birthday. When she awoke, she found streamers and balloons on her door.
We also had the house decorated with some Cinderella stuff from her party.
She had some presents to open from Mommy and Daddy and Brandon.
I think she liked her new princess sheets for a new big girl bed.
We offered her cake, donuts, cinammon rolls, etc. for breakfast, but the only thing she wanted was french toast! So, that is what she got.
She enjoyed a long bath playing with her new bathtub dress up dolls.
She wanted to eat lunch at Chick-Fil-A. (Which, of course, has nothing to do with the food, but with the fact that they have a playground!)
Here she is having fun on the slide at Chick-Fil-A!
She enjoyed playing dress up and playing with her new Leapster on her birthday.
We shopped for her new bed on her birthday and finally found one. Daddy had to put it together.

We acutally didn't get a mattress on her birthday, but a few days later we did. Here she is climbing into her new bed.

She loves it up there!

I got a picture of her sleeping in her new bed and the picture also shows off the new lamp we got for her room.
Sounds like it was a wonderful day for our wonderful 4 year old!
